Woodlawn School.... it's where ART happens!

The visual arts program at Woodlawn engages students in making, interpreting, and learning about art in a meaningful way. Students learn skills and concepts of art while growing as individuals.The art curriculum is designed to enrich core classes through integrated themes. Students experiment with a variety of media and technique. Students are encouraged to think and work like artists; focusing on the creative process and not the end product. Though we do end up with some amazing products!

Curriculum & Grading

Students learn concepts that connect to the National Core Arts Standards. lessons focus on learning these concepts and not on the end product.

Guiding Principles for Fine Art:

Studying works of art in preparation for creating art
preparing students to develop art literacy
Studying historical contexts of works of art, deepening understanding of connections with other areas of knowledge
Providing a learning progression throughout the year that is developmentally appropriate
Developing a lifelong curiosity for the arts
